Maria Serena I. Diokno

Hansens Disease or Leprosy was a dreaded disease in the Philippines during the Spanish and American period. It tells about the efforts of the Spanish and American colonial governments to contain the disease amidst the close knit Filipino culture during that time. The book also narrates the victory of the American government in advancing the cure as well as the victory of the afflicted Filipinos who found hope in their new lease on life as former patients and developed a strong bond with fellow patients and with their confinement communities.
